Biography
Born, Chicago, Illinois, B.F.A, California Institute of the Arts, 1976. Lives and works in New York City. Sue Williams’ paintings investigate the line between abstraction and representation by presenting body parts so distorted that they metamorphose into abstract compositions. Using the human body as a tool to discuss complex issues of gender roles and relations, she explores the subject of the body as art along with other artists of the 1990’s. As from 1989, she held various one-woman shows across the United States as well as in Paris, Venice, Vienna, Lisbon and Athens. In 1996, she took part in the “Ideal Standard Life” exhibition at the Spiral Wacoal Art Center in Tokyo and, in 1998, she took part in two shows in Paris at the Ghislaine Hussenot Gallery.
