Biografia
Pintor inglês, nascido em Leeds, de tendência abstraccionista. 1937-39 Estudou na Slade School, 1945 Mudou-se para Londres 1947 Primeira exposição individual. 1950 Primeira exposição em Penwith Society of Arts, Cornualha, St Ives, onde expôs regularmente até 1970. 1953-56 Ensinou na Central School of Arts and Crafts, Londres. 1958 Ficou com o estúdio de Ben Nicholson em Porthmeor, St Ives. 1959 Recebeu o Grande Prémio na Exposição John Moores Liverpool II. 1965 Medalha de prata na VIII Bienal de São Paulo; deu conferências em São Paulo, Brasilia e Rio de Janeiro Representou a Grã-Bretanha na primeira Bienal de Sydney, na Opera House.1980-87 Membro do Conselho de Administração da Tate Gallery, Londres. 1987 Doutoramento Royal College of Art, Londres 1988 Visitou Moscovo e Leninegrado.
