Born and living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ernesto Neto's body of art can easily be associated with the traditions of other well-known Brazilian artists, Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica. The viewer becomes the participant in his large, room-sized membranous chamber works. To create an experience of sensorial body-consciousness, Neto manipulates space, light, sound, smell and texture, using only modest materials such as nylons, spices and sand to do so. Ernesto Neto has recently participated in both the XI Biennale in Sydney, Australia and the XXIV Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil, 49ª Biennale de Venezia; his works are represented in the Kunstalle Basel, Galleria Comunale d´ Arte Moderna di Bologna and MoMA, New York.
