Biography
José Luís Neto was born in Sátão. Works and lives in Lisbon. He studied in Lisbon at Ar.Co and in London, developing an individual project (idea of light) at the Royal College of Art. He shows regularly in Portugal and abroad since the beginning of the 90’s. In 2002 he received the special prize of the jury of the 47th edition of Salon Contemporain de Montrouge and in 2005 won the 2nd edition of BES Photo Prize, which included a collective exhibition at Centro Cultural de Belém. A selection of collective exhibitions: Entrar na Obra, Estar no Mundo: A Fotografia na Colecção da Fundação de Serralves (Museu de Serralves, 2007), Bes Photo 2005 (Centro Cultural de Belém, 2006) and About Face – Photography and the Death of the Portrait (Hayward Gallery, Londres, 2004) and his last solo exhibitions, High Speed Press Plate, 2007 Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Continuum, 2005, CAMJAP da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Anónimo, Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, no âmbito da LisboaPhoto 2005 and Liga-me, 2004, Promontório Gallery, Lisbon. His photographic work may be seen in some books, for instance, 22474, and in art collections such as AR.CO – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, Lisbon, Centro Português de Fotografia,Oporto, Arquivo Fotográfico Municipal de Lisboa, Lisbon, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Fundació Foto Colectania, Barcelona, and Folkwang Museum (Essen).
